Listed as one of France’s Most Beautiful Villages, this Loiret hamlet, perched on a promontory overlooking the Rimarde valley, retains an unspoilt medieval charm. Its blonde stone walls, fortified gates and half-timbered houses bear witness to its past, far from the hustle and bustle of urban life.
Dominating the village, the imposing ruins of the feudal castle are a reminder of the past presence of the Counts of Sens, who ruled here in the 13th century. Surrounded by four massive towers and a sentry walk, the castle today offers a spectacular panorama of the Gâtinais plain. Right next door stands the church of Saint-Gault, whose unfinished nave and arches open onto the sky, giving it an almost mystical allure.
