Cigarettes are a real scourge! Every year, according to the World Health Organization, it causes over 8 million deaths worldwide. Of these 8 million, around 1.3 million are non-smokers who suffer the consequences of passive smoking. According to Euronews, the European Commission has adopted a series of measures to protect non-smokers. But how will this affect the French? Here’s everything you need to know.
Will cigarettes be banned from public places in France?
In concrete terms, the European Union recommends banning smoking in outdoor or semi-outdoor areas. These include parks, playgrounds, zoos, bar and restaurant terraces, school and hospital grounds, as well as bus stops and airports. And nicotine-containing electronic cigarettes are not spared either.
The European recommendations are not obligations, but only suggestions. Each member state is therefore free to apply them in its own country or not.
The European Union’s objective is to create a tobacco-free generation by 2040, starting by reducing smoking by 30% by 2025! What about you?
