Plaisirs d’Hiver: Brussels’ Christmas market transforms the city into an enchanted village
From the end of November, Brussels is transformed into a veritable winter kingdom with the return of its famous Christmas market and activities, thanks to its Plaisirs d’Hiver event. The 2025 edition takes place from November 28 to January 4, in magical locations all over the center of the Belgian capital.
The 230 wooden chalets are set up in emblematic locations: with Place Sainte-Catherine as the focal point, they will also be set up at Place de la Bourse, Place de Brouckère, Place de la Monnaie and the Tour Noire. Each area will be animated by artisans, gourmet stands and Christmas decorations that blend perfectly with Brussels’ historic facades.
In addition to craft stores, the market offers a wide range of entertainment: retro rides, an illuminated Ferris wheel, an ice rink and even a curling rink on Place De Brouckère. A Ferris wheel overlooks the city, while the skating rink invites young and old to glide along in a festive atmosphere.
For those with a sweet tooth, warm up with mulled wine, Belgian pancakes, waffles and typical market sweets. On the savoury side, the chalets offer shrimp croquettes, golden French fries and boulets in rabbit sauce, the emblematic dish of Liège. Those with a sweet tooth will delight in speculoos, artisan chocolates, purple cuberdons and fragrant gingerbread.
One of the highlights of this 2025 edition will also take place on the emblematic Grand-Place. A magnificent sound and light show will be staged every evening of the event, while in the courtyard of the Hôtel de Ville a monumental work of art, Morphosis, symbolizes transformation and renewal. In the same building, you can also enjoy the View Tower Experience, with its 360° panorama of the square, as well as superb candlelit concerts in tribute to Adèle and Charles Aznavour. For the first time, Place Poelaert will be decked out with a mini Christmas village, where toys will be collected in aid of local charities.
The Brussels Christmas market experience isn’t limited to the chalets: the itinerary invites you to discover the city in a whole new way. Between the illuminated alleyways, the decorated bridges and the entertainment in general, it’s a continuous enchantment. For a winter weekend or a city break, this destination is a must for the festive season.
