Basel’s Christmas Market takes place at two major sites. On Barfüsserplatz, in the heart of the city, the chalets form a cosy village surrounded by historic buildings. A few minutes’ walk away, Münsterplatz offers an even more spectacular backdrop, dominated by the red sandstone Gothic cathedral. The contrast between illuminated stalls, decorated trees and monumental architecture gives this square a wild atmosphere after dark.
In the market aisles, you’ll discover a wide selection of handcrafted creations, often made in Switzerland or neighboring regions. Handmade Christmas decorations, carved wooden objects, candles, textiles, traditional toys and handcrafted jewelry: there’s something for everyone.
