At 80, rue des Martyrs, the famous Chez Michou cabaret is about to enjoy a second life. Following its receivership, a new page has been turned in the history of this legendary venue. The former cabaret is to be taken over by Gad Elmaleh, who has the full support of Michou’s niece! In its place, a club dedicated to humor and comedy is to be created.
Gad Elmaleh to buy Chez Michou cabaret
Last July, Chez Michou was forced to close its doors, much to the dismay of the regulars of those crazy nights. Four years after the death of the famous founder, the future of the cabaret was in limbo following a suspension of payments. But today, an unexpected turn of events has turned the situation upside down. Gad Elmaleh has been chosen by the Paris Commercial Court to take over the show!
With Chez Michou having built up an international reputation over the years, a heavy burden now rests on the comedian’s shoulders. While he hasn’t bought back the Chez Michou brand and the place can’t be renamed as such, Gad Elmaleh has promised that the soul of the place will remain unchanged. Following in the footsteps of other comedians, Elmaleh will have his own comedy club, with its own venue and programming.
A renewal that suits Michou‘s niece, who told AFP she was relieved about the future of the establishment. Now “in good hands”, the former cabaret will once again be able to welcome the whole of Paris and become a place where laughter and joy are the order of the day.
All that remains is to find out when this new temple to Parisian humor will be inaugurated!
