The Château de Vincennes is certainly one of the most emblematic in France. In fact, it’s one of the highest medieval fortresses in Europe! From now until November 2, the château and its entire grounds will be transformed to offer you a spectacular experience through its Festival of Light. The festival brilliantly combines the digital arts with the historic beauty of the site. A journey through time that promises to be unforgettable.
Vincennes, Château de Lumières: everything you need to know about this immersive light festival
Through an impressive video-mapping, the history of this castle is told before your astonished eyes! First a royal residence, then a symbol of imperial power and a military stronghold under Napoleon, the château held out against German troops during the Second World War.
Projected in the Cour Royale of the Château, the mapping was created using archives from the Service historique de la Défense. A truly educational journey through the centuries, where you’re bound to learn something! This breathtaking 20-minute show can be admired every evening between 7 and 10.30pm.
Contemporary works in a place steeped in history
Take a moment to contemplate the 18 luminous contemporary works of art on display throughout the sublime estate. Each one evokes an emotion, a fragment of time, and blends elegantly into the Château’s setting. Some of these installations interact with visitors, transforming light into a living, almost palpable material.
In all, no fewer than 11 stages await you. Each installation has been conceived and created by different artists from all over the world, with the aim of questioning our relationship with time and space. A simply magical show, not to be missed during the All Saints’ Day vacations with the kids!
