It’s just south of Blois where you’ll need to head to discover this beautiful 17th-century stately home. In the shadow of Chambord or Blois, this listed building is nevertheless one of the region’s most attractive châteaux to visit. The first reason? The magnificent decor and furniture, the work of Jean Monier, who also worked at the Palais du Luxembourg. Cheverny is even said to be one of the best furnished châteaux in France.
But the Château de Cheverny is also a wonderful bucolic getaway, as evidenced by its brilliant garden of several hundred hectares, filled with flowers and even a labyrinth. It’s easy to see why Hergé chose this estate as his inspiration for Moulinsart. Quite simply, the château in Tintin ‘s universe is a replica of the Château de Cheverny, without the two outer pavilions.
