Fancy getting away for a while before the summer ends? We’ve got a few ideas to get you out and about, and give your weekends a vacation feel. Between the châteaux and their enchanting gardens, some of which are free of charge, and the picturesque villages close to the capital, we promise you won’t get bored. This time, we’re heading for Toucy, a charming fortified village with a fairytale feel. It was here, hidden away in the Yonne, that Pierre Larousse was born (yes, the man behind the famous dictionary of the same name). With its pretty half-timbered houses, flower-filled center and fortified castle, you’ll have plenty to do!
A charming, picturesque village close to Paris
If you’re looking for a getaway full of character, Toucy is the place to be. This village, nestled in the heart of the Puisaye region, will seduce you with its colorful half-timbered houses and cobbled, flower-filled streets. You won’t want to miss the church of Saint-Pierre, built on the town’s ancient ramparts. A true testament to the 13th century, it is framed by two magnificent fortified towers: the Tour des évêques and the Tour Saint-Michel. It’s one of the village’s most remarkable monuments!

The village’s gourmet market, held every Saturday morning, is one of the finest in the region. It brings together local producers and visitors to create a convivial atmosphere around seasonal produce. Over a weekend, you can stroll through the charming, romantic streets, visit the home of the famous lexicographer Pierre Larousse or explore the surrounding area on foot or by bike along the Ouanne river. If you’ve got kids, or want to fall back into childhood, we recommend booking a train ride. These will take you on a half-day tour of fabulous landscapes. Some of the tours include visits to nearby villages such as Dracy. A lovely moment, full of poetry, to treat yourself to!

Among the city’s sights, don’t miss the Pyramide du Loup. An unusual and highly immersive site, dedicated to the protection of endangered species such as the canid. You’ll gain a much better understanding of this animal through a fun and educational sensory exhibition. It’s a great way for young and old alike to learn more about this majestic animal.
