But did you know that it also houses one of the most beautiful chapels in the Ile-de-France region (and indeed, the whole country?). A treasure you can visit all year round, thanks to guided tours… And believe us, it’s well worth the trip!
A sublime royal chapel 1 h from Paris

The Chapelle Royale de la Trinité is a truly remarkable edifice that’s sure to put stars in your eyes. Built during the reign of François I, then extensively remodeled under Henri IV, it blends several architectural styles. There are Gothic references, a French Renaissance style and some Baroque influences.

You’ ll be dazzled by the beauty of its details, from floor to ceiling. Painter Martin Fréminet magnified the vault between 1608 and 1619, depicting important biblical scenes such as God’s Apparition to Noah and the Annunciation. Each scene is richly framed with thick moldings to enhance its beauty. And, of course, like all chapels, it houses an exceptional organ, built in 1630 and listed as a Monument Historique. It is still used today for annual concerts.

Sculptor Francesco Bordoni created the gilded high altar and the multicolored marble paving. The same paving can be found in the royal gallery upstairs. The chapel’s sculptures and intricately detailed ornamentation are simply a feast for the eyes. It’s hardly surprising, then, that it was the scene of such historic events as Louis XV’s marriage to Marie Leczinska in 1725, and Napoleon III’s baptism in 1810.

The chapel is accessible all year round from the Grands Appartements tour route. Although certain rooms may be closed during the year (for renovation, for example), the chapel remains generally accessible. Don’t hesitate to check the château‘s website to be sure.
Magnificently restored, the Chapelle Royale de la Trinité is a marvel to be visited and contemplated at least once in your life.
