At first glance, this small chapel lined with medicinal plants seems nothing out of the ordinary. Yet behind its old stone walls and modest architecture lies a true treasure. In fact, in the late 1950s, the painter Jean Cocteau, moved by this “sleeping beauty,” created all of the interior decorations.
The poet chose “herbs” and “resurrection” as the sole themes of his paintings, which cover the entire chapel. Deeply attached to this humble chapel, the artist now rests within it for eternity.
Listed as a historic monument since May 2015, the chapel has undergone major renovation work, particularly on its roof and masonry . The artist’s frescoes have also been restored to their former splendor. The medicinal garden, which has been undergoing complete restoration and replanting since April 15, should regain all its beauty and fragrance in a few months. An unusual cultural experience worth trying at least once!
