Inside, the nave rises high, supported by columns, and light filters through more than 170 medieval stained-glass windows, some of which date back almost to the building’s origin. Among them, the famous Blue Madonna is considered one of the masterpieces of medieval stained glass.
Another emblematic feature of the cathedral is its labyrinth, embedded in the choir floor. Unlike a Stations of the Cross, the labyrinth invites meditation and inner journeying, a spiritual practice that dates back to the Middle Ages. Many visitors still set foot here today, seeking to experience this ancient tradition.
The cathedral has survived the centuries without undergoing radical transformations, making it an authentic witness to classical Gothic art. Rare restoration campaigns have preserved the sculptures, ancient stained glass windows and structural integrity of the building, while respecting its original character.
