This fall, the Petit Palais is looking across the border. From November 10, 2026, to April 25, 2027, the exhibition “Brussels 1900” will bring together more than 250 works to chronicle the moment when the Belgian capital established itself as one of Europe’s major artistic centers. Paintings, sculptures, jewelry, posters, photographs, decorative arts, and architectural projects will come together to create a comprehensive and immersive experience.
Brussels 1900: More Than 250 Works on Display at the Petit Palais
At the World’s Fair held in Paris in 1900, nearly 150 Belgian paintings and sculptures were exhibited at the Grand Palais, causing quite a stir among the public. More than a century later, the Petit Palais looks back on this particularly creative period, marked by Symbolism, the rise of the decorative arts, and a desire to foster dialogue between architecture, furniture, and the fine arts.
The exhibition will feature exceptional loans from the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, the Royal Museums of Art and History, and the Royal Library of Belgium. Among the announced works will be Jean Delville’s *L’Amour des âmes*, a large Symbolist canvas painted in 1900 and previously exhibited at the 1900 Paris World’s Fair.
Five monumental paintings by Adolphe Crespin and Édouard Duyck will also make the trip to Paris following a restoration campaign carried out in Belgium during the summer of 2026. The venue is particularly well-chosen: built specifically for the 1900 World’s Fair, the Petit Palais will thus host an exhibition dedicated precisely to the period that saw its creation.
