In Paris, there’s no shortage of coffee shops, terraces and other places to enjoy a cup of coffee. If you’re still looking for that rare gem or want to try out new places to enjoy a good cup of coffee in Paris, we’ve got just the address for you! We went to Café San José, rue des Petits Champs, to try out their coffees, including the famous best espresso in Paris at 1€… Follow the guide!
Just like home
Just a stone’s throw from the Opéra, Café San José has been serving coffee for over 175 years. And that’s just the beginning! This roaster welcomes you to an authentic space. Retro facade, Formica counter, 70s decor… Here, we take a leap back in time and above all enter a most convivial place, welcomed by the friendly Patrice. “70% of our customers are regulars. They come once, twice, three times a day. We even have customers who live in the neighborhood, who have machines at home, but prefer to come here!“
The best coffee in Paris for €1 and much more
At Café San José, you can choose from 11 different varieties of coffee, mainly Arabicas. We couldn’t resist trying THE 1€ coffee, a fragrant Italian classic that we loved. We were also tempted by a fruity allongé and a cappuccino. The latter, with the dense foam we love, is available for 2€! An unbeatable price in Paris.
Our favorite is the Brazilian coffee, very smooth with floral notes. A grand cru well worth the detour! And because we’re gourmands at Paris Secret, we also followed Patrice’s recommendation to try the Spanish hot chocolate, with its great taste of cinnamon and vanilla… How could we resist?
Expresso VS filter coffee: which is more caffeinated?
After all these tests, our videographer Jane was afraid she wouldn’t be able to sleep… Patrice then let her in on a secret. “When you make a filter coffee at home, you think, “I’m drinking a mild coffee, it’s not too strong.”Except that brewing coffee in the water of a filter coffee maker will release more caffeine than an espresso.” In short, to meet the recommended daily coffee intake, you can drink more espressos than filter coffees in a day!
