There’s nothing ordinary about this eco-responsible third-place! Nestled in a former train station in the 18ᵉ arrondissement, just a stone’s throw from the inner ring road, REcyclerie is an urban farm, workshop, café-cantine and eco-cultural venue all rolled into one. For the past 10 years, this hardly classifiable yet unmissable venue has always given you a good excuse to come along: for a coffee, to applaud an artist, to bargain hunt… or even all three at the same time! But unfortunately, the latter is under threat… We explain!
La REcyclerie: a unique bar in the heart of a disused railway station
It’s hard to imagine the hustle and bustle of trains in this former station, which has been completely reinvented as a haven of green peace. But that’s exactly what the REcyclerie has done, putting life back at the heart of its eco-responsible project.
Here, you can shop for local produce, seasonal vegetables, seeds for your vegetable garden or upcycled clothes. You can take part in DIY workshops to learn how to build and repair, visit the hens and their eggs in the café’s garden with your children, or enjoy a rich cultural program: lectures, concerts, readings, exhibitions… In short, not a month goes by here without something new!
After culture in all its forms, it’s time for food! Here, you can enjoy a coffee on the pretty green terrace, or even lunch on healthy vegetarian dishes from Wednesday to Friday. Burger, croque-monsieur, brownie… you won’t go hungry, we promise.
A unique place, yet threatened with closure…
We’re telling you about this place, so dear to our hearts, because it’s in danger of closing… Indeed, one of the capital’s most emblematic third places has been suffering from financial problems for several months. As stated in an Instagram post, its future lies in the coming months:
La REcyclerie opens this spring 2025 more fragile than it has ever been. Its economic situation is precarious and its future will be played out over the next few months. Without you, it could disappear.
