In Paris, “Bach in Space” invites you to experience classical music from a rather dizzying perspective, surrounded by high-resolution images from NASA and the ESA that reveal the cosmos in the darkness as the pieces unfold. From the study of the stars to their contemplation, the capital has for centuries nurtured this curiosity about what lies far beyond our planet.
The Paris Observatory is one of the oldest still in operation in the world, while the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie brings the public closer to the big questions of the universe. It is therefore only natural that the city was chosen to host a spectacular new concert, which will take place at La Scala.

What is Bach in Space?
“Bach in Space” is an audiovisual concert that combines live performances of Johann Sebastian Bach’s works with images of the cosmos from NASA and the ESA. Renowned pianists bring his repertoire to life while cosmic phenomena, planetary landscapes, and views of space unfold around them.
But the imagery remains in service of the sound. The motifs that unfold in the Goldberg Variations may find an echo in the luminous density of the Trumpler 14 star cluster, while the Twin Jet Nebula and its two luminous jets evoke that quest for balance and structure found in The Well-Tempered Clavier. As the piano plays on, these images accompany the music without ever stealing the spotlight.
Bach and the Cosmos: A Natural Harmony
Listening to Bach is also like hearing architecture. Patterns that repeat and transform, voices that intertwine, variations organized with remarkable precision: behind the emotion lies an almost mathematical rigor. And it is precisely here that the encounter with the cosmos becomes particularly evocative.
For behind the immensity revealed by NASA and ESA images lie, too, laws and structures that mathematics can describe. When confronted with these images, the musical precision of Bach seems to take on a new scale. Order meets immensity; an architecture of notes dialogues with that of the cosmos. This is sure to intrigue music lovers, astronomy enthusiasts, or simply the curious who have come to experience Bach in a new light.
