The 8th arrondissement town hall: the most beautiful town hall in Paris?
While its exterior façade may seem much more understated than that ofParis City Hall, you’ll seethatinside,a wholeother worldhas been hidden away for over 100 years.This gem of Second Empire style has indeedstood the test of time with elegance, all while preserving its refined decor.
You’ll find marble in its grand staircase, gilding on its walls and ceiling… You might almost forget that it’s actually a city hall, given how opulent and well-preserved the decor is. As you tour the building, you’ll discover some truly beautiful rooms, such asthe splendid wedding hall. The cochère vault,composed of a series of Corinthian columns, is a magnificent example of Second Empire architecture. In fact, the entireinterior decorationwas entrusted to the sculptor Pierre-Edouard Charnier. It is partly thanks to his work thattheLouvre Museum owes some of itsmagnificence…This speaks to the historical significance of the site.
Often less crowded than other cultural sites during Heritage Days, this town hall—little known even to Parisians—is truly worth a visit. The lines are relatively short, allowing you to explore it at your own pace all weekend long!
