It was best known for its film sets and massive movie backdrops. Now, the Cité du Cinéma also aims to become a place where people can simply come to spend the day. After several months of renovation, the Saint-Denis site has just unveiled its new concept during Heritage Days on September 19 and 20.

Of the 12,000 square meters now in use, the Cité is no longer limited to film professionals. Movies, live performances, dance, concerts, exhibitions, and dining will gradually take their place in this former power plant, which became a film studio in 2012.
In particular, the public will be able to enjoy a movie theater with approximately 450 seats, spaces dedicated to major exhibitions, and a restaurant that can accommodate up to 1,000 people. The programming will be organized around four themes: film, music, performing arts, and media.

In fact, on October 2, the immense nave will host a “Final Cut” electronic music night. Starting November 30, Michel Gondry will set up his “Usine de Films Amateurs,” where visitors can collaboratively conceive and shoot a short film. Choreographer Benjamin Millepied and his Paris Dance Project are also taking up residence there.
Eventually, the Cité also promises major exhibitions focused on pop culture and the behind-the-scenes world of cinema. The stated goal is clear: to attract approximately 300,000 visitors per year—far beyond the professional audience that previously frequented the site.
