For the 2026 European Heritage Days, Galeries Lafayette will offer four free tours organized outside its regular opening hours. This is an opportunity to take in its architecture, history, and famous Art Nouveau dome without the daily hustle and bustle of the store’s aisles.
The format will be particularly intimate: only 15 people will be able to participate in each tour, with two departures on Saturday, September 19, at 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., followed by two more on Sunday, September 20, at 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. That’s a total of just 60 spots for the entire weekend. Reservations, which have been open since August 31, are required.
A tour of Galeries Lafayette beneath its 1912 dome
The tour will focus in particular on intangible heritage, traditional crafts, and contemporary design. Visitors will also learn about the history of a department store founded in the late 19th century that took on a new dimension in 1912 with the opening of its grand building on Boulevard Haussmann.
At the center stands its most spectacular feature: a glass-and-metal dome rising 43 meters high. Designed in the Art Nouveau style, it combines stained-glass windows, floral motifs, and ironwork designed notably by Louis Majorelle. More than a century later, it remains one of the defining architectural landmarks of Boulevard Haussmann.

These tours will also explore Galeries Lafayette’s connections to artistic creation. The tour will highlight “savoir faire savoir,” a program dedicated to the applied arts, the transmission of knowledge, and contemporary craftsmanship.
It’s up to you!
