Initiated by Galerie Roussard, the street art exhibition in the former Louvre post office is back! From November 16 to 24, eighteen artists will occupy the renovated building with their paintings, sculptures and live painting performances! And it’s all free!
Street art on show in an 1886 building
This exhibition is the meeting of two seemingly opposed worlds, but which are increasingly coming to intersect and intermingle! The links between street art, historical museums and ancient architectural heritage are well established. The We are here event at the Petit Palais is a perfect example, as is this new exhibition dedicated to street art, to be held in an unexpected location in November.
For the second time, the Festival d’Art Urbain et Contemporain is taking over La Poste centrale du Louvre, one of the capital’s architectural jewels, built in 1886 by Julien Guadet. Open 24 hours a day, every day, the post office was an emblem of the district and a unique place in the lives of Parisians, who flocked there to file their tax returns before midnight! Undergoing 5 years of modernization work, the colossal building reopened its doors in 2021 and today houses shops, offices, restaurants, a post office and even a rooftop!
It’s in this setting that 18 street artists will have the privilege of exhibiting at the Urban and Contemporary Art Festival from November 16 to 24, 2024.
Eighteen street artists on show in the former Louvre Post Office
For over a week, the former central post office will be the place where urban art enthusiasts, exhibition-goers of all kinds and street artists meet! Galerie Roussard, which already orchestrated Street Art Madeleine in September, is back with this event, which combines an exhibition of works (sculptures and paintings), artist encounters and performances! Organizers and artists will be keen to make this historic site their own, creating a dialogue between the renovated late-19th-century architecture and the works!
The creations will take place in a 350 m² space whose industrial identity has been preserved, combining alcoves, exposed ducts, metal staircases and concrete floors! You’ll come across creations by Jérôme Mesnager, Ardif, Kaldea and Ensemble Réel. For live painting, head for the patio, the building’s central feature, which will be the backdrop for performances by Jo Di Bona, Onemizer, Astro and Wékup!
