Who would have thought that above the Montparnasse station lies a magnificent garden of almost 4 hectares? Little known to most Parisians, this “Ecojardin” garden is a veritable haven of peace. Open every day of the year, it’ s completely free…
A suspended garden above Montparnasse station
Inaugurated in 1994,this immense garden crowns the Montparnasse station with a magnificent 3.5-hectare space, 100% free of charge… And it’s a real technical feat, since it had to contain several openings to allow good ventilation of the station and parking lot , while being sufficiently green to be pleasant. Imagined in honor of the links between Paris and the Atlantic coast, this green space will give you a change of scene.

A nod to the station’s connections! From the tree species chosen, such as the umbrella pine, to the patterns of the flagstones running the length of the garden, whose curves are reminiscent of waves. Here, you can take a stroll, play tennis or table tennis free of charge in the open air, or enjoy an ocean-themed playground for children… Perfect for killing time in any season, especially if your train is late or if you’re a little early.

More surprisingly, the park features a huge thermometer, a rain gauge, a weather vane and an anemometer to measure wind speed. You’ll be captivated by the beauty of the site, which offers a bubble of tranquility that’s astonishing for its location… You’ll almost forget you’re standing atop one of Paris’s busiest train stations!
An absolutely astonishing, yet little-known place, which we recommend you visit at the weekend.
