It’s so unreal, you’d think it was a photo retouched by AI. But Ploumanac’h beach does exist. Situated in Brittany, in the heart of the Côtes d’Armor region, this haven of peace just 3 hours from Paris will completely amaze you. Here, not only the rocks, but also some of the sand is a pretty shade of pink…
Ploumanac’h and its pink beach, for a magical weekend getaway
You’d think it was a fairytale landscape. And yet, Brittany hides an astonishing nugget that’s unique in France: the Ploumanac’h beach. It’s a jewel with a difference: its sand and rocks are tinted a pretty pastel pink.
In stark contrast to the azure blue of the water, this place simply has a fairytale air about it. Here, time has left its mark, sculpting the rocks into truly unique shapes. One might almost think that a giant had fun arranging them here and there, sometimes in balance, sometimes on the edge of the pink granite cliff… A delightful sight for the eyes.
But how can such a phenomenon exist? Well, it’s due to the presence of tiny fragments of pink granite rock. Mixed in with the sand, and sometimes reduced to fine dust as the years go by, they give the sand a special, absolutely magical hue. The rocks get their color from iron oxide impurities embedded in the crystal.
