With temperatures hovering around 18° and the sun shining brightly this week, Paris is ready to welcome spring, so much so that Parisians are even putting on a few smiles. But since good news rarely comes alone, we now know when the famous ephemeral terraces that appeared after the deconfinement in 2020 will return. After the switch to summer time, here’s another sign that the good times are really here in Paris!
An official date for the return of ephemeral terraces in Paris
It’s official: the ephemeral terraces adjoining our favorite bars and restaurants will be back in Paris from April 1! This is good news for neighborhood life, as it brings with it the smell of spring and sunshine, and will be well supervised so as not to disturb the comfort of local residents. Shopkeepers will be able to roll out their installations in ten days’ time, and welcome Parisians until October 31.
In terms of the measures taken and the rules in force, the first thing to note is that a special authorization from the Mairie must be issued for each terrace opening. This year, shopkeepers will be obliged to close their terraces at 10pm. In addition, to harmonize with the public highway, a number of rules have been laid down concerning furniture, and in particular its size. As in previous years, the technical services of the City of Paris will be carrying out checks to ensure that everything is in good working order.
