Since the 1970s, Pierre Commoy and Gilles Blanchard, better known as Pierre and Gilles, have developed a singular universe, where art meets pop culture and LGBTQ+ references. With Nuit électrique, the artist couple invite you to discover their latest creations, which once again swing between nostalgia and modernity.
Created over the past two years, the Nuit électrique collection revisits, among other things, their iconic status with a touch of subversion, through a gallery of shifty, nocturnal portraits. You’ll find some of their iconic characters, such as the sailor, the angel, the rogue or the octopus, staged in neon-lit downstairs settings and artificial paradises.
Pierre et Gilles’ new exhibition invites you to dream and reflect!
Fans of camp, dreaminess and humor, you’ll be won over by this new exhibition, which spotlights a new gay, trans and mixed-race generation! Highlights include two self-portraits by the couple, as well as portraits of their lifelong muses: Amanda Lear, as a boulevard theater diva, and Isabelle Huppert, playing Mary Stuart. True to their style, these colorful, homo-erotically charged works also deliver a subtle, poetic reflection on the human condition, while questioning the place of the newly marginalized in our contemporary society.
And to the delight of art lovers, entrance is free and no reservations required! Take advantage of this unique opportunity until October 26, 2024, at the Grenier Saint Lazare, open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 7pm.
