Over the next few days, it’s likely to get very hot in Paris! So let’s get away from the City of Light for a day! Head for the Vallée de Chevreuse and its hidden natural treasures. You’ll discover a sublime waterfall, hidden in the undergrowth, as well as a sublime Hogwarts-style abbey… Get your shoes ready, we’re off on an adventure!
A hidden waterfall 1 hour from Paris…
While hikers and nature lovers know the Vallée de Chevreuse well for its relaxing setting and beautiful walks, few know that it hides a secret… Indeed, this paradise on earth is home to a two-meter waterfall, entirely surrounded by nature.

A magical sight, but with nothing to do with Mother Nature. The Vaux de Cernay waterfall is completely artificial. Adjacent to the small Vaux de Cernay mill, it was used to turn the millstone to crush wheat or forge tools… Together with the mill, it belonged to the monks of Cernay Abbey. These different levels of water flow make for a truly magical setting, where time seems almost suspended! In fact, it’s not uncommon to see hikers bathing here when the mercury’s at its zenith! But be warned: although you can dip your feet in the water, swimming is strictly forbidden for health reasons. We therefore advise you to take every possible precaution during your walk, and simply enjoy the refreshing surroundings.
What’s more, this little paradise on earth is only 1 hour from Paris. And you don’t need a car to get there! Just take your Navigo pass and the RER B to Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse, then the 39-17 bus to Cernay-la-Ville.

Even today, you can enjoy its coolness on a hot day, with a magnificent walk through the heart of the forest. An itinerary of around 1 h 30 from the Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse station takes you through the forest and along a pleasant footpath past the magnificent Hogwarts-like Cernay Abbey. A sublime estate, where you can stay and even enjoy a delicious brunch…

Once you’ve reached the waterfall, don’t hesitate to stop off at the Hotton mill, just a few yards away. The mill, which has been awarded the “Heritage of Regional Interest” label, is both a museum and a café where you can enjoy a bite to eat after a lovely walk! Coffee, tea, desserts and all kinds of delicacies await you.
In short, an enchanted interlude to indulge in this weekend!
