When we talk about the La Défense district, the last thing that comes to mind is nature. However, a vast five-hectare garden is about to spring up. In two years’ time, the La Défense esplanade will offer a much-appreciated green oasis, making Paris’s business district the world’s first post-carbon business district. See you in 2028 to enjoy it!
It’s historic: the La Défense esplanade is set to be transformed into a 5-hectare park
In 2028, we could say goodbye to the slabs of the La Défense esplanade and its overly mineral appearance, as a 5-hectare park will completely redesign the area. In two years’ time, Parisians will be able to stroll along more than 600 meters of entirely green space, designed for socializing. This historic axis will feature various squares, green walkways, sports facilities, and a playground for the whole family.

Visitors will be able to stroll through wooded areas surrounded by trees selected for their hardiness, particularly in hot weather. And don’t expect to admire only different species of trees. Six new ponds will be created to provide areas of coolness, including a playful fountain along the main axis. These water features will be essential during heat waves, but also for the surrounding flora and fauna, which will be able to thrive there throughout the year. The park will connect the neighborhoods and towns of Puteaux and Courbevoie and will stretch between the Agam Fountain and the Takis Pond.
Although work has already begun in 2025 , we will have to wait until 2028 to finally discover this “Parisian Central Park.”
