A magical hike in western Ile-de-France
As the fine weather begins to make its timid appearance, it’s already time to think about our favorite activities once the sun is fully back in the sky. A picnic in a park, a trip to one of France’s most picturesque villages or a festive festive open air all these possibilities will soon be within our grasp, as soon as temperatures permit. Among these activities, a good hike in the forest will be perfect.
Departing from the Saint-Rémy-les-Chevreuse train station, your day’s escapade will take you to the banks of the Yvette, the charming waterway around which the hike is orchestrated. Along the way, you’ll come across magnificent châteaux, including Méridon, and lush forests that will take you far from Paris, as well as picturesque churches and charming villages. From Herbouvilliers to Les Sablons and Chevreuse, every village in the area has its own surprises in store.
And as well as admiring the scenery and enjoying the peace and quiet, you’ll also be able to sample local specialities and the skills of local craftsmen (including France’s last remaining syrup maker), so that you can treat yourself or leave with some tasty Yvelines delicacies. This historic walk will take you past a number of architecturally interesting buildings.
All in all, it’s a multi-faceted hike you could be in for. Whether you’re a lover of culture, a stroller in search of greenery or just a walker looking for a bucolic outing, this is the route for you. With little in the way of gradient or uneven terrain, it’s worth noting that this escapade isn’t overly demanding and therefore suitable for beginners. However, you’ll need to be well equipped to cover the 15-kilometre route.
This is one of the many walking trails to be found in the Paris region. Don’t hesitate to take a look at our list of the region’s most beautiful escapades.
