If you like unique places, with a real identity and extra soul, then you’re going to love Halle Saint-Pierre. Hidden away in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, right in the heart of the Montmartre district, you’ll find everything here:a bookshop, a café and even a museum! Shall we show you around?
A secret hall in the heart of Paris: Halle Saint-Pierre
Built in 1868, this Baltard-style hall has seen a thousand uses! In the past, it housed a market, then a school, before serving as a warehouse for the municipal cleaning service.
Since 1995, however, the Halle Saint-Pierre has taken a turn for the better, becoming a temple to naive art. Three or four times a year, you can discover exhibitions featuring art Brut, outsider, Naïf or surreal: paintings, sculptures, photographs… each exhibition presented will not leave you indifferent.
But that’s not all! Here you’ll find a superb bookshop specializing in writings on art, artists’ books and works on all forms of contemporary creation. With its large glass roofs and Eiffel-style wrought-iron vaults, the hall is not lacking in charm. After admiring the latest exhibition on the second floor, and finding your next novel on the first floor, take time for a gourmet break. Head for the café de la halle, where you can sample succulent vegetarian pastries.
An absolutely charming place, a stone’s throw from Sacré-Cœur, to visit all year round!
