To the south-east of Paris, there’s the lovely Gorges de Franchard trail. If you want to soak up a wide variety of landscapes and get a change of scenery without leaving the Île-de-France region, here’s a great itinerary just a stone’s throw from the capital. On this short 2.5-kilometre hike, you’ll enjoy the greenery, the peace and quiet and the pleasure of a good walk.
A peaceful spring walk at Gorges de Franchard
If you’ve had enough of the incessant hustle and bustle of the capital, what could be more rejuvenating than a bucolic outing outside its walls? Whether you’re a couple, a group of friends or a family, take a leisurely stroll through the forest of Fontainebleau, 57 kilometers from Paris, and discover one of the most enjoyable walks around. In the heart of France’s second-largest state-owned forest lies a picturesque, easy-to-access trail, perfect for a springtime stroll.
Along this little loop, you’ll be able to contemplate both beautiful natural panoramas and small man-made curiosities. At the start, you’ll come across the Ermitage de Franchard, frequented by monks since the 12th century for meditation. As you continue on your way, you’ll see the Eye of the Nations, a monumental plaque paying tribute to the commitment of nations and theFontainebleau Appeal for the conservation of nature. Finally, don’t miss the Weeping Rock, named after the curious drip that forms on its wall in rainy weather.
All in all, this hike is worth the detour for the diversity of its landscapes, typical of the flora of the Fontainebleau forest. Mysterious ponds, towering oaks and chaotic landscapes: there’s plenty to see along the way, to everyone’s delight. With no great difficulty or length, it’s suitable for everyone, including children and animals. An itinerary that should take an average of 1h30 to complete.
