To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, discoverthe exclusive exhibition tracing 40 years of fashion, “Look! 40 Years of Fashion at the Museum.” A journey through four decades of fashion, featuring iconic silhouettes that have transformed the industry and our wardrobes.
40 Years of Fashion at the Museum of Decorative Arts
The exhibition traces the two lives of a garment: from the initial sketch to the runway, via fashion photography; it details the stages of creation, followed by those of conservation and restoration in a museum.
You’ll discover 40 incredible silhouettes, designed by Azzedine Alaïa, Madeleine Vionnet, and Elsa Schiaparelli… Costumes, futuristic dresses, and dazzling outfits— all showcased in various museum exhibitions over the course of its 40-year history. Through this major retrospective, the museum celebrates both haute couture masterpieces and emerging design, while exploring the social and cultural role of clothing.
You’ll also discover the elements that precede a garment: sketches, embroidery samples, patterns, and design archives… Everything that remains out of sight, yet plays a major role in the creation of a collection.
Of course, fashion goes hand in hand with photography! The exhibition doesn’t fail to highlight the close connection between fashion photography and its models, some of whom have become true muses. The same goes for fashion shows, some of which have evolved into true artistic performances that have left a profound mark on the industry and, at times, even on pop culture. In short, fashion fans, don’t miss it!
