Discover Bonneval, the “little Venice of the Beauce” not far from the capital
A calm, bucolic and peaceful atmosphere, a palpable medieval heritage and small navigable canals: these are just some of the attributes that make Bonneval one of the most charming villages to discover around Paris. Nestled in the Eure-et-Loir region of France, this commune of less than 5,000 inhabitants is simply known as the “Little Venice of the Beauce”.
So, to deserve such a nickname, not only is it charming, but the presence of small canals also plays a role. In the heart of the town, the meandering watercourses give the area a very special character. To get the most out of your trip, you can rent a canoe and paddle along the Loir, taking in a natural setting rich in vegetation and beauty.
Alternatively, staying on foot is all you need to appreciate the city’s medieval charm. From the Porte Saint-Roch to the Porte Morad, via the Tour du Roi, many vestiges of the Middle Ages can still be seen. On the outskirts of the town or in the center, there are numerous short walks, hikes and even horse-drawn carriage rides!
In any case, the best way to discover this commune is to lose yourself in its alleys, visit its shops and admire its buildings.
To reach this veritable nugget, you’ll need to allow about 1h30 for transport, either by car or by train, from the Gare d’Austerlitz station. So it’s up to you!
