Skeletons, mariachis, catrinas, dancers and “fire artists” meet this autumn at the Jardin d’Acclimatation. On the program: Mexican cuisine, transformed attractions, fiery shows and many other surprises. An explosion of color for Día de los Muertos in Paris!
The traditional Día de los Muertos
In Mexico, “El día De Muertos” is a veritable tradition for celebrating the dead. With its festive character, the Day of the Dead is all about pleasing the spirits. Fruit, sweets and Pan de Muerto (a skull-shaped bun) are laid out as offerings in front of the flower-filled altars that Mexicans have so carefully crafted. Wandering from cemetery to cemetery, Mexicans throw flower petals and light candles to guide souls to their graves.
Like the sublime animated film Coco, in Mexico El día de Muertos is not a day of mourning, but a celebration to show the departed that they have not been forgotten… And in Paris, El día de Muertos has been on a roll for several years now .
An explosion of color for El Día de los Muertos at the Jardin d’Acclimatation in Paris
From now until November 12, the Jardin d’Acclimatation is going Mexican! And with good reason: the traditional El Día de los Muertos festivities are in the spotlight. The only amusement park in inner Paris invites young and old to the most frightfully fun event of the year.
Continuously until November 12, the Jardin d’Acclimatation in Paris immerses you in “Latino” folklore. For the occasion, the park is awash with the colors of mariachis, skeletons, catrinas decked out in their finest finery and “fire artists”. On top of this, two themed attractions test the nerve of young and old alike. The gentle enchanted river of the Jardin d’Acclimatation is transformed into the surprising “Bewitched River”. As for the “Maya Labyrinth”, it opens its doors for a thrilling adventure. A labyrinth of mirrors, special effects and light effects to make you lose your mind!
Mexican Fiesta and Baile de Fuego
The Jardin d’Acclimatation is also the venue for the Mexican fiesta, El Día de los Muertos. During the All Saints’ vacation, on November 11 and 12, Las Arrieras, a 100% all-female Mariachi band, will take to the stage in the main aisle, just in front of the Bewitched River. Dressed in charro – an outfit consisting of a gold embroidered vest, riding pants and a sombrero – this joyful troupe of powerful voices will transport you to Mexico. La Cucaracha, Cielito Lindo, Las Mañanitas… In front of your amazed eyes, the greatest classics of the Mexican repertoire will be reinterpreted.
Mexican cuisine, calaveros & catrinas make-up and guignol Mexicano
Did you think it was over? No, the Jardin d’Acclimatation isn’t stopping there in terms of entertainment for its Día de los Muertos theme ! Chili con carne, fajitas, burritos, pan de muertos, dulce de tre leche… The park’s restaurants, kiosks and pop-up patisseries transport your senses to Latin America.
To complete the experience, the Make Up For Ever teams are on hand to apply make-up to your “little monsters”. For €8, they’ll be transformed into frighteningly funny creatures. At the Jardin d’Acclimatation, the iconic Guignol also joins in the festivities. Every day, the famous puppet tells us the untold story of his trip to Mexico.
