Placed under house arrest at the Château de Blois by her own son, Marie de Médicis orchestrates one of the most spectacular escapes in French history. Defying the guards and the sheer drop, the queen climbs out the window of her apartments and slides down a dizzying rope ladder to reach, in the shadow of the castle walls, a carriage that was secretly waiting for her.
