When we mention the Champs-Élysées, many of you rightly think of the crowds of tourists thronging the avenue. It must be said that the most beautiful avenue in the world has plenty to amaze passersby with its architecture, its shops, and of course its Arc de Triomphe towering over the Place de l’Étoile. But what you may not know is that there’s a magnificent garden right there—and it’s completely free. A spot overlooked by Parisians, yet surprisingly relaxing and idyllic. Want a tour?
A garden unknown to Parisians just a stone’s throw from the Champs-Élysées
Listed as a historic site since 1910, this magnificent historic garden consists of twelve green spaces, alternating between tree-lined paths and romantic walkways among the sculptures. Originally designed by André Le Nôtre—best known for the gardens of Versailles—the gardens were largelyredesigned during the Second Empire as an English-style garden, divided in two by the Champs-Élysées.

Despite its many attractions—such as the superb fountains designed by Jacques Hittorff (who also designed those at Place de la Concorde), sculptures by renowned artists like Jeff Koons, a picturesque artificial waterfall, and three theaters— it’s five times less crowded than Parc Monceau, which is actually three times smaller…
Yet these gardens truly have everything to charm you. Open every day, 24 hours a day, they offer a refreshing respite during the heat. You’ll also find a tea room and a magnificent gourmet restaurant founded in 1980. Keep it in mind the next time you’re in the area: we promise you won’t regret it!
