After traveling back in time to the Renaissance (an exhibition currently still open), the former foundry in the 11th arrondissement comes alive with a spectacular journey into Prehistory , guided by the voice of Gérard Lanvin and featuring images from the hit series *Planet Prehistoric* streaming on Apple TV. Bonus: the soundtrack is by Hans Zimmer! Good news: it’s reopening* to the delight of curious visitors of all ages. But beware—this reopening is as fleeting as it is anticipated: the museum is set to close its doors on June 28!
Planète Préhistorique: when dinosaurs take the Atelier des Lumières by storm once again
Imagine the walls and floor of the Atelier des Lumières transforming into a lush jungle inhabited by impressive wildlife. The stars of the Jurassic era— from pterosaurs to marine reptiles like mosasaurs, not to mention agile velociraptors, the fearsome Tyrannosaurus Rex, and the colossal Dreadnoughtus (one of the largest giant dinosaurs)—come to life in life-size form before our astonished eyes, and the mysteries of the fossils are brought to light.
This is thanks to the technology that makes the Atelier des Lumières exhibitions so successful. The former foundry on Rue Saint-Maur comes alive to the rhythm of the footsteps of extinct giants. More than just a projection, it’s a documentary featuring 360° imagery that restores the dinosaurs’ full monumental scale. We’re talking about striking scenes of daily life captured and amplified here by 59 Studio, in collaboration with Mike Gunton, the series’ executive producer and creative director of the Natural History Unit at the BBC.
Listen up! To add a touch of depth to this journey through time, the narration is none other than the resonant voice of Gérard Lanvin, who guides us through the millions of years of the dinosaur era. The original soundtrack? It’s composed by renowned film score composers such as Hans Zimmer, Anže Rozman, and Kara Talve for Bleeding Fingers Music. A detail that makes all the difference!
